XVII International AIDS Conference

The XVII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2008) will be held in México City, México from 3-8 August 2008. AIDS 2008 will be the first International AIDS Conference ever held in Latin America. As the largest and most diverse international gathering devoted to a global health issue, the conference brings together the movement of people responding to the epidemic to share lessons and together stake out the road ahead. An important gathering for the release and discussion of scientific, programmatic and policy developments in the global response to HIV/AIDS, the Conference will likely attract as many as 25,000 participants and 3,000 journalists.

Recognizing the strategic opportunity presented by the geographic proximity, and the high impact of HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean region, the Kaiser Family Foundation, in Partnership with the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS, will support twelve (12) CBMP member journalists with fellowships to attend and report on the conference. Prior to the conference, fellows will attend a two and a half-day workshop to enhance their HIV/AIDS reporting skills and understand production values for LIVE UP: The Show segments. They will also spend a day gathering b-roll footage in Mexican settings. Asian, African and other global health journalists are also expected in the workshop.
