In this first quarter of the New Year we at Live Wire want to extend a very hearty welcome as together we embark on a new year of positively responding to HIV and AIDS in this region. Coming out of our 5 year summit in December 2011 we hinted at quite a few new and exciting partnerships and initiatives and we have certainly gone full speed ahead as we seek new ways of engaging our targets. Look out for news on our partnership with the Island Queen Franchise and its new Reality Show as well as an update on our Man-A-Man 2 minute video competition held recently in Jamaica. Regional Testing Day is here once again and we at Live Wire are aiming to surpass last year’s testing totals. Be sure to submit your IAS Fellowship applications and we a part of the CBMP contingent traveling to Washington D.C. in July for the International AIDS Conference.

LIVE UP SALUTE TO NATIONWIDE NEWS NETWORK!
Live Wire salutes CBMP member station Nationwide News Network in Jamaica, which has been described by one HIV Advocate as revolutionary in its approach to HIV messaging. Mr. Ian McKnight of the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities (CVC) noted “I must single out for special mention Nationwide News Network here in Jamaica who are revolutionary in many ways. In this case they are placing the CBMP ads/PSAs in Prime Time. This has gone a far way in heightening awareness on the matters on which we work so hard. Great work! CBMP WELCOMES ITS NEWEST MEMBER
The CBMP welcomes its newest member Tropical Radio Caribbean (Online). With the addition of Tropical Radio Caribbean this brings the CBMP membership to 111 member broadcast stations in 24 territories all committed to making HIV and AIDS a business priority as they respond to HIV and its related issues in the region.
CBMP TAKES WASHINGTON!
CBMP members can now mark the calendar at July 22nd – 27th, 2012 as the Partnership will be taking 16 journalists off to Washington D.C. for this year's International AIDS Conference. AIDS 2012 is expected to convene more than 20,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries, including more than 2,000 journalists. The International AIDS Society, the world's leading independent association of HIV professionals, with 14,000 members in 190 countries, will organize AIDS 2012 in collaboration with international and local partners. In 2008 the CBMP took 16 journalists to Mexico and awarded 8 Fellowships to Vienna in 2010. Successful candidates can expect pre-conference training and the opportunity to file daily news stories from the conference. Members should visit www.cbmphiv.org for applications.
CRN+ LAUNCHES 1ST ANNUAL CARIBBEAN HIV WORKSHOP
CRN+ conducted its first Annual Regional workshop on the Caribbean HIV epidemic and response focusing on epidemiology, advocacy, prevention, treatment & care, and organizational management. This workshop forms part of the Global Fund Round 9 Grant, of which CRN+ is a sub-sub-recipient, entitled 'Fighting HIV in the Caribbean: A Strategic Regional Approach. During the workshop 50 persons were trained over a period of two days in Trinidad & Tobago on January 25 – 26, 2012. Forty nine (49) participants were drawn from Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago. MAN-A-MAN! ARE YOU A REAL MAN?
The Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS (CBMP) in association with PSI/Caribbean launched the 'Man A Man: LIVE UP Video Competition' at the Rebel Salute concert in St Elizabeth, Jamaica on Saturday 14th January 2012. The competition engaged 18-24 year old Jamaican residents to showcase their talent by creating an original two (2) minute video highlighting their views on "Faddahood and manliness inna dis ya century". LIVE UP MAN-A-MAN AWARDS CEREMONY AND FREE CONCERT
The CBMP in partnership with PSI/Caribbean gave reggae and soca lovers both a treat on Sunday March 25th, 2012 with the staging of the LIVE UP Man-A-Man Awards Ceremony and Free Concert at Emancipation Park, New Kingston, Jamaica. Under the distinguished patronage of His Worship Lee Clark, Mayor of Kingston and St. Andrew, it was at this event that the top three winners of the recently held LIVE UP Man-A-Man Video Competition were announced and awarded their prizes. GREETINGS FROM PANCAP
As CARICOM's regional coordinating body for HIV/AIDS response, PANCAP's support and endorsement of the CBMP is critical if we are to have a united response to HIV in the region which is a goal of the CBMP. Newly appointed Director Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland commended the Partnership for five years of tireless efforts through its membership and their programming to keep the mandate of the CBMP alive in the public consciousness. ELTON JOHN AIDS FOUNDATION (EJAF) RAISES MILLIONS FOR HIV
On Sunday, February 26, 2012, Sir Elton John and David Furnish hosted the 20th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Academy Awards Viewing Party at West Hollywood Park, sponsored by Chopard, Neuro, and Wells Fargo. The event raised a record $5.25 million for innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate AIDS-related discrimination and stigma, and direct care and treatment services across the U.S., the Americas and the Caribbean. ISLAND QUEENS LIVING UP
Contestants in this year's Island Queen competition experienced many firsts for the franchise including participating in a much anticipated reality show as well as sound HIV training. This HIV sensitization was made possible through the CBMPs partnership with Media Support International (MSI) who has produced the Island Queen show for the past five years. The "Soldiers of Awareness" as they are being trained to be, got up close and personal with International artist and LIVE UP Champion Rupee during the HIV workshop recently. Rupee offered the contestants a glimpse into his personal journey, having lost both parents to AIDS, and his struggle to balance life as a popular entertainer and still be responsible in his daily living.
