The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation is a US-based non-profit, private operating foundation focusing on the major health care issues facing the United States and the world. The Foundation operates as an independent voice and source of facts and analysis for policymakers, the media, the healthcare community, and the general public. Kaiser partners with media organizations in the U.S. and around the world to develop multi-faceted public education campaigns on health issues with a particular focus on reaching young people with information about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. The partnerships generally combine targeted public service messages with longer form special programming and other forms of outreach utilizing the assets of our media partners. Free informational resources are distributed through toll-free hotlines and dedicated websites. Kaiser’s media partners include: KNOW HIV/AIDS, a joint venture with CBS Corporation and Viacom, Inc.; think: Sexual Health with MTV and Staying Alive with MTV International; Rap it Up with BET; and Enterate/Protegate with Univision. Internationally, the Foundation provides technical and substantive guidance to Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS (TPAA) on the Russian Media Partnership to Combat HIV/AIDS (RMP) and its StopSPID (AIDS) campaign in Russia and Ukraine, and working with the Avahan Initiative and Richard Gere’s Healing the Divide Foundation to undertake the Heroes Project, an HIV/AIDS public education campaign in India. We are also helping to develop efforts in Africa and the Caribbean. Kaiser’s work in HIV/AIDS policy seeks to provide the latest information, research, and analysis on the major domestic and global HIV/AIDS policy issues. This includes analysis and monitoring of: key epidemic trends; global and domestic funding for HIV/AIDS; the major programs that provide prevention, care, and treatment to people at risk for and living with HIV/AIDS; and public opinion about HIV/AIDS. A major focus of our work is on the impact of the epidemic on those populations and regions of the U.S. and the world that have been most affected, including young people, women, and minority communities. Kaiser also operates several websites that provide a wealth of up-to-date information and data on HIV/AIDS and other health issues in the U.S. and the world. Kaisernetwork.org, a free news and information service, offers daily summaries of HIV/AIDS-related news from around the world and webcasts on major HIV-related conferences, events, and briefings. We operate two websites, GlobalHealthReporting.org and GlobalHealthFacts.org, which provide the latest information and data on HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria from around the world, with major support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for GlobalHealthReporting.org.
